GENERAL MEETING Tues, March 11, 6:30 pm Featuring Vicki Fallon

Vicki will speak to us about Appraising Art. Bring your questions on purchasing pieces and how to price your own work.

BIG THANKS TO A VALUABLE MEMBER

At a special planning meeting, LaRae Pickard presented the board with a very carefully put together notebook on the annual Spring Fine Art Show. The notebook will be invaluable to every person who agrees to chair this event, as it includes timelines, data for distribution of posters, prospectus, contribution letters, etc. and samples of all printed material.
LaRae has chaired this event for many years and has put all her expertise into this book, so that it will not have to be reinvented. So we say, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You have given us a wonderful gift.

DEB HART MAKES SUNDAY MEETING GREAT

Twenty two members and three guests attended the February 3 meeting to hear Deb Hart tell us about her work with found objects and metal clay. Several people who had not been able to come to our Tuesday meetings were in attendance and commented about how nice it was to have that opportunity. The board is considering doing the same next winter. Our speaker gave us a very interesting program on making jewelry and sculpture with “precious metal clay”. She explained that the clay was made from silver particles recovered from film processing, cellulose and water. The clay is rolled thinly then wrapped or shaped around a cork clay mold. It can also be extruded through a syringe. It is then fired for about 2 hours. During this time the cork clay mold burns away and the finished piece is .999% ;pure silver. She showed us some of the jewelry she has made with this method, talked about the laboratory made stones she uses, and answered questions from the members. Her work is currently being shown at Art Talks Gallery in Shelton. She also showed us some of her shoes that she has embellished with markers.

PHOTOGRAPHY FIELD TRIPS PLANNED

March 19th has been tentatively set for the first of several field trips to photograph nature. This first trip will be to the Schuyten property and will be led by Lee Perkins and Jim Brock. The resulting photographs, as well as those that members may wish to share will be collected and hopefully put into a power point presentation to be shown at one of our meetings. If the power point thing doesn’t work out, we will make a collage of prints to show. So get out your cameras and favorite photos, digital and prints, and join the group in putting together this collage of memories.
