April 17 18th Annual Spring Show Opening 10:00 am

The speaker at our March 13 meeting was Vicki Faxon. She gave us some very interesting information about appraising art, and urged us as artists to price our work in an amount reflective of the work and creativity involved. She expressed her opinion that we more often than not place too little value on the original work we do; and therefore lead the public who want quality work to reject it because the artist doesn’t have enough faith in their work to place a high enough value on it. We are often placing prices on the work that other artists are getting for prints. She also said that the presentation should be attractive and quality, but that a well designed and executed piece should stand on its own and could be sold in a shrink wrapped mat or a studio frame.

SPRING SHOW STARTS APRIL 13

HELP STILL NEEDED!!

Just 5 days from our next meeting we will begin taking in entries for our Fine Arts Show that will be held at the Shelton Civic Center and will open on April 17. We still need people to help set up and take in art on Sunday, April 13, 12:30 to 5:00, and people to help take in entries and hang on Monday, April 14, 10:00 to 5:00 and people to help move and hang work on April 15 & 16, 10:00 to 3:00. Also bring your calendars so that you can sign up for show sitting. Pick up a poster to be displayed in neighborhood businesses. If you have questions or would like to volunteer and can’t attend our next meeting, please call Getha at 426-6623 or Becky at 426-1842

PHOTOGRAPHY FIELD TRIPS CONTINUE

The first photograpy trip at the Schuyten property led by Jim Brock was very successful. The resulting photographs, as well as those that members may wish to share will be collected and hopefully put into a power point presentation to be shown at our May meeting. If the power point thing doesn’t work out, we will make a collage of prints to show. We hope to have some more outings to do nature photography, so keep a look out for the dates. Jim is putting the program together. If you have up to 10 photos already that you want to share put them on a separate CD and contact Jim (427-6913) or bring them to the April meeting.
