NEXT GENERAL MEETING:
TUESDAY, APRIL 14
6:30 PM at PUD #3 SHELTON
Program: BETTY JO FITZGERALD
BETTY JO FITZGERALD TO SPEAK ON COLLAGE
Betty Jo is an artist who dreamed of an art career from childhood, but chose a practical line of study in Botany. She has degrees in that subject from California State University and the University of Washington and taught graduate level Botany courses at Seattle University for several years.
Her career path changed when she studied design, painting and printmaking at TESC, Pratt Fine Arts Center, Sedona Art Center, and participated in any workshops. She took master classes with Edward Betts and Ron Pokrasso. She has now been painting and printmaking for 28 years, and 400 pieces reside in corporate and private collections. She works out of her two studios/galleries in Olympia and Colfax.
She is a signature member of Northwest Watercolor and National Collage Societies and has been an elected member of Women Painters of Washington since 1987. She has taught workshops for La Connor, Coupeville Arts Center, the Frye Art Museum and continues to jury shows and teach classes for numerous art groups throughout the Northwest. She has had several solo shows and her art has been selected in 90 national juried competitions winning more than 30 awards. Her paintings have been included in international exhibitions in Germany, Kuwait, and Ireland. She says that she is no longer entering juried shows.
Of her work, she says, "Throughout my career, I have been an avid colorist and remain open to experimentation and play. I hope to infuse my artwork with joy, whimsy and a little bit of magic."
SPRING SHOW NEEDS YOU!!!!
Every member can be involved in our annual spring show. We need people to help set up, take entries, and most of all, be "docents", the people who supervise during the open hours of the show. Most shifts are only two hours long and that means that we need four people each day. Our chair, Sharon Brocha will be calling people to help fill these shifts. Please be ready to give her a time that you can be there, if at all possible.
We also need people to bring food for the reception on May 9. Deb Hart or Linda Bellon-Fisher will be calling for those donations, so be thinking about what you can contribute.

March Meeting Recap.
Tuesday evening, March 10, our speaker was Michael Ryan. Michael was at one time a college level teacher but now is self-employed in Olympia. He
began his program on digital photography by explaining that one can usually get upward of 220 photos on a chip depending on its capacity. He explained the advantages and disadvantages of downloading photo in the JPEG format and Raw. He also explained how to turn off and on the flash on a consumer grade camera and other functions. He explained storing your images on your computer, creating new folders for them and renaming them. He showed us how to "size" our photos for e-mailing and explained using Photoshop to improve or change our images. He talked about several advanced techniques available in various professional programs as well.
Preceding the program seven members participated in Show and Tell. Becky led discussions of the Spring Show, upcoming programs, the Shelton Art Festival and visiting Dick Carlson’s Studio in June. Getha Tidrick called for members to sign up to help at the Spring Show and thanked those people who have volunteered to chair the Spring Show committees.
Meet Our Members: Laurene Ekse
Laurene has been a member for several years. She is presently serving on our board. Upon her retirement from the work world, she took a renewed interest in drawing and photography, although she has no formal art education. She also enjoys quilting, and her horse, Misty. She says, "My education and career were in the sciences, so these activities are a shift."
