Next meeting will be held on:Sunday, November 15th ~ 1:30 p.m. at the PUDGuest Speaker: Bob ChamberlinBob Chamberlin is a founding member of Peninsula Art Association, and truly a very skilled and talented painter. Formally a commercial artist, Bob has created many amazing works in and around our city of Shelton, a couple of which are murals including the side of the Treasures building, the mural on the PUD building, and the train trestle on Ming Tree by the Historical Museum. When Bob was a young boy he worked in the woods, and a little later he went into the Army. After completing his tour of duty he went to art school. That was in 1955, and he has been an artist ever since. In the 1980’s Bob spent several years creating 75 beautiful watercolor works for the state’s 1989 centennial capturing “The History of Logging”. The intricate paintings begin the story with the hard-working steam donkeys, they move along to show how the loggers lived, the advancement of equipment used throughout the years, and it closes with exportation. “It was a labor of love.” Bob said. “It took a lot of work to finish them, and they ended up disappearing into obscurity. I decided to resurrect them.” he added. Although Bob sold these original watercolors over the years, he has laser prints of them, and he plans on showing 50 of these wonderful paintings at our next meeting along with speaking on what they represent. Bob has done a previous presentation for our members on the history of Olympia called “Sylvester’s Window”. The originals still hang in the Olympia Library, and they are impressive! I had an opportunity to visit Bob at his art studio, where stacks upon stacks of amazing detailed work lines the walls and floor, and I asked him how many paintings he has completed over his career - there are about 1,000. “They always told me in school ‘you have to do a hundred bad ones before a good one’.” he said. And, it’s clear by the quality of work that he’s done many! Please join us at our next meeting to hear this wonderful presentation. THANK YOU OYSTERFEST VOLUNTEERS!

are you a
Michelangelo fan??
The Seattle Art Museum is currently exhibiting 12 original Michelangelo drawings titled “Michelangelo, Public and Private”. The primary focus of the exhibition is the preliminary work for the Sistine Chapel in Rome, including a selection of working drawings for the Sistine Ceiling and the Last Judgment. Considering Michelangelo burned all his drawings after completing these paintings, or so he thought, these later found treasures are very special. Check it out!
“My children will be the works I leave behind, for even if they will be of little value, they will last for awhile.”
Michelangelo (1475 - 1564)
