Next meeting will be held on: Sunday, January 10th ~ 1:30 p.m. at the PUD Linda Bellon-Fisher is our very fun-spirited speaker of the month! Linda has her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art from California State University, Fullerton, and she has been a member of PAA since January, 2008. Using an older-model slide projector and slides, Linda will share with us 68 slides of photographs, ranging from the late 1800’s to the 1980’s, that she used to show the students she taught in college. She will also be bringing her “Folio 83” containing eighteen photographs including dye transfers by her and Darryl Curran—then the head of art photography at Cal State Fullerton. Dye transfers are the ancient photographs made before color photography was available, so there were less than ten people in the U.S. making dye transfers in 1983. “It took so much time to do dye transfers, but Darryl and I enjoyed it. The process was used before the world of colored photographs was happening.” Linda shared. There were only a handful of people selected for the Folio 83 project, and Linda was the only former student invited. Folio 83 was originally sold all around the United States. Now, 26 years later, a museum owner in the south looked up the original Folio 83 participants and contacted Linda to ask where and when she was born to put that up with the photography in his museum. Linda will also be reading us the “Laguna Canyon Project” that she wrote for U Turn. It is about Jerry Burchfield and Mark Chamberlain’s yearly photography project to help Laguna Canyon remain isolated in the 1980s. “I thought it was fun that they did that.” Linda said. Besides the many wonderful projects Linda has worked on, she has also created fantastically fun children’s books, two of which are entitled, “My Story of Glory” and “Tommy-Toe” about the wonderful adventures of a little goat named Sophie-Poo, her cousin Tommy-Toe, and her Grampa Gasparko. Please join us at the meeting!! Excerpted from Tommy-toe “Everyone says I’m the smartest young goat. “Yep, everyone says I’m the smartest young goat. CALLING ALL MEMBERS!! What’s Interesting About New Technology Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is an invented name for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The procedure for copying a painting done originally with paint on canvas or paper consists of taking a high quality photograph, usually a 4x5 inch or larger transparency, and then scanning that transparency into a sophisticated scanner to digitize the image and create a computer file. The purpose was to print the picture using newly developed, high-end ink jet printers designed to produce extremely fine dots in a resolution greater than that possible from normal printing processes. One of the big advantages of the Giclée process is that it is now economically feasible to print only one painting or reproduction at a time. A second big advantage of Giclée is that once the art has been digitized, it can be printed in various sizes to suit a particular art buyer. With the printing press, each copy had to be the same size. Please visit Art Talks if you would like more information on Giclée.
