April 2010

Next meeting will be held on:

Tuesday, April 13th ~ 6:30 p.m. at the PUD

Guest Speaker: Val Persoon, watercolorist

Val Persoon is our fun guest speaker for April. Please join us with her watercolor technique review.

“My mom told me she liked my mud pies. That was enough for confidence. Skill and experience are still forming a time layered patina over my joy of art. I began two-dimensional work in 1968 when I was twenty five. I didn’t want to stop, ever, so I chose the full-time career of an artist. I love it still. I describe my work as interpretive. Right now I use watercolor, but my media could change without notice. Color, composition, edges, and lately, mood are elements of the job that get my full and undivided attention one at a time. When choosing what to paint, I reach first for face to face confrontations with the ordinary. Energy springs from discovering one by one an unending variety of painting techniques that keep me happy and creatively charged. I strive to control the balance of power in my art; to give the techniques I use more strength than the subjects. It is a long, rewarding, and unfinished challenge. My days fill themselves with an integration of art, friendships and family while I present my work at galleries and shows. These personal connections with friends, customers and students are a deep pleasure.”

MEMORIAL

Long time member, Barbara Pratt, passed away recently. She spent part of her winters in Hement, California, and the rest of the time up here. She has always been a very happy presence and a joy to have around. I think she has probably entered every one of our Spring Shows. We are setting up a little memorial corner for her at this year's show with a few of her paintings. Her family is having a memorial service for her on Sunday April, 11th, at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church on Cota St. It would mean a lot to her family to meet some of her art friends. ~Becky Schuyten, President

OUR MISSION

The Peninsula Art Association was organized in 1990 to bring Olympic Peninsula area visual artists together to exchange ideas and information. We wish to contribute to the motivation and recognition of our members and provide opportunities for education and instruction. We also hope to inspire and involve others in the community in the enjoyment of visual arts by sponsoring and supporting regular shows and events.

BRING YOUR ARTWORK!

Bring your artwork to our May meeting to be photographed by Jim Brock for our website additions. Our website just isn’t the same without you!
